Our Legacy’s recycle hub Work Shop hits Dover Street Market Ginza with upcycled Stool 60 Ystävä’s by Artek
”What we admire and respect with Alvar Aalto and Artek’s timeless design, is the ability to exist in both worlds, to be functional and decorative at the same time.”
During a presentation at Dover Street Market Ginza this weekend, Our Legacy’s Creative Director Cristopher Nying, founder Jockum Hallin and in-house artist Hank Grüner customized Artek’s Stool 60 Ystävä live in the shop. They also presented special made Our Legacy Work Shop — Artek merchandise.
— In both Sweden and Finland, for our generation born in the early 1980s, the first encounter with Alvar Aalto and Artek’s furniture would often be in a public space such as a visit to the library, the doctor’s office, or even earlier at day care or in school. Today we furnish our offices, showrooms and homes with the same design — the stools, benches and tables in birch (Ystävä). What we admire and respect with Alvar Aalto and Artek’s timeless design, is the ability to exist in both worlds, to be functional and decorative at the same time. For our first collaborative work with Artek in a series to come, we have taken inspiration from our youth, school years and time spent in public spaces. Elements such as carvings on the school bench top, flyers and pins from the note board, woodwork burning and graffiti tags on the public bathroom wall decorates a number of Artek Stool 60 Ystävä, applied in our signature multi technique layering, says Hallin. Our LegacyOur Legacy Work ShopArtekArtek Stool 60 YstäväDover Street Market Ginza
