New exhibition explores the importance of fashion in art and the importance of art in fashion
Curator Cay Bond, one of Scandinavia’s leading fashion journalists and trend analysts, brings together works by Nikoline Liv Andersen, Henrik Vibskov, BITE, Martin Bergström, Mark Kenly Domino Tan, Selam Fessahaye, and more.
Bond and Sven-Harrys konstmuseum have selected fourteen important fashion designers for their new exhibition Art in Fashion, opening today. They all have one thing in common: their work is clearly influenced by art.
In every era, successful fashion designers have been able to capture the spirit of the day. They share that sensibility with artists, whose relationship with contemporary culture has always been practically symbiotic. This is an opportunity to get a close look at Olivier Saillard’s installation Moda Povera, the dramatic creations Copenhagen-based Nikoline Liv Andersen (top picture) has designed for musical artist Björk to wear in various performances, Henrik Vibskov’s dresses straight from the runway, and award-winning design star Selam Fessahaye’s creations with distinctive explosions of materials. The show also features a new piece by Princess Madeleine’s favorite designer, Linda Nurk; romantic knit items of soft wool by Ann Bonander Looft; a perfectly tailored overcoat by BITE Studios; an elegant dress and tuxedo by the Danish Royal Family’s favorite, Mark Kenly Domino Tan (MKDT); Diana Orving’s feminine creations with an artistic touch; and the organically inspired installations of internationally recognized designer Martin Bergström.
Art In Fashion includes thirty-six works by fourteen exceptional fashion designers. It’s a recognition of traditional craftsman expertise and masterful design and as fashion and art always spark public interest and engagement, this is an exhibition that will be easy to talk about.
