Lundhags’ warmest ever boots is ”not for those who buy new all the time”
The iconic brand explains why durable also is sustainable.
Founded by shoemaker Jonas Lundhag on the island of Frösön in 1932, Lundhags early on became synonymous with comfort, function and quality.
— Material and manufacturing processes have developed and been refined in many ways. However, the fundamental philosophy has always been the same, to produce functional products that last for a long time. Each product stems from a passion for fostering the tradition of manufacturing quality products for the Nordic outdoors. This is why, Lundhags is still an icon, says Marketing Manager Caroline Karlström.
In perfect timing for the winter, they present their warmest boot yet.
What’s the secret making it so warm?
— The key feature in Skare Expedition is a 5mm-thick, removable inner shoe made from wool, with a footbed especially equipped with insulating Primaloft Aerogel that retains the heat of the feet on the inside, while insulating from the cold ground. The boot’s outsole is especially constructed to provide grip on ice, with an undercut heal for improved stopping capacity on descents. The boot is also manufactured in thicker material with a combination of rubber and leather to make it highly waterproof, with a gusseted tongue that prevents snow from entering the boot, says Karlström.
— We’re proud of expanding our already strong collection of boots and winter boots with a real beast that withstands the brutal climate we have here in the Nordic region. It feels important to be able to offer a product that has got what it takes even for the harshest of expeditions, says Product Manager Mats-Håkan Lundhag.
Who’s the target group?
— Not for those who buy new all the time. Adventurers, photographers, hunters that need a warm boot in really tough conditions and when you’re outdoors — suitable for tough winter hikes, expeditions with snowshoes, and for extra good grip in icy conditions, says Caroline Karlström.
How do you work with sustainability?
— ”Sustainable” is the word of our time. Logically enough along with ”climate anxiety”. But in the contrary to what some say, buying new things all the time, and recycle them when the color is out of fashion, isn’t at all sustainable. Our way of keeping up with Mother Earth is about making products that are really durable — items that doesn't become untrendy but are made to be maintained and repaired, again and again. It comes natural to us, and has always done.
Next year, Karlström tells, the brand will launch Lundhags Waterproof — a series of 3 shell set (jacket and pants) with a strong sustainability performance focus.
— It has both great breathability and waterproofness but yet sustainable materials and production — and of course made to last. And for footwear category we will relaunch our Heritage line, which pays homage to previous models from our long tradition of boot making. We also have an interesting co-lab boot with our partner CRUD. We wanted to create a unique product made in a limited number while telling a story about sustainability, long-term thinking and adventure in the wilderness. We stand for the same values and want to inspire to choose quality.Lundhags Skare ExpeditionLundhagsCaroline KarlströmPrimaloft AerogelJonas LundhagMats-Håkan LundhagLundhags WaterproofCRUDMats Lind
