Five years of hybrids

CQP celebrates their anniversary by adding a special release based on their ”dot” symbol to their footwear lineup, which merges Scandinavian minimalism and Italian tailoring.

Words Johan Magnusson

38-year-old Adam Lewenhaupt is married, father of two wildlings aged 3 and 6 and started his working life in finance but changed course, now being the founder and Creative Director of CQP.

How come that you started the brand?

— I am still trying to figure this out, he says. But I believe the right answer is that I decided it was time in my life to pursue something I felt truly passionate and strongly about. I have always loved sneakers and shoes of all kinds, as well as design in general, and I felt there was a niche to be filled.

From start CQP has been about creating ”hybrids” that intersect casual and formal and the range has been narrowed down over the years.

— Today we have 6 or so different styles, ranging from a hiker-style to slip-ons. What they have in common are great fit and comfort, paired back design and a soft, deconstructed feel more similar to what is found in Italian tailoring than footwear.

The retailer list includes Trunk Clothiers in London, Lund & Lund in Stockholm, PAUW in Amsterdam, Linnégatan 2 in Gothenburg as well as Isetan and United Arrows in Japan. And for the second consecutive year, the brand opens a special summer store in Stockholm.

— It features our full line up as well as special limited styles made exclusively for the store. We have also taken in some other products, t-shirts and hats, notably from a NYC-based brand called Rowing Blazers that is re-defining preppy. We will try to keep adding interesting things all summer, says Lewenhaupt.

CQP celebrated their fifth anniversary a few weeks back, now commemorating that with a special edition, the Jubilee silhouette.

— The ”dot” is our symbol which can be seen in our logo so we decided to use that more visibly and applied this and some other detailing to one of our core styles to create something new that nods to our past, and hints to the future. The Jubilee style is limited to 25 pairs and available exclusively through our channels.

This week, they also release an exclusive style with Trunk in London. And in the fall, they’re also adding a few great retail accounts and exclusives for Isetan and United Arrows.

— We have survived now for five years which may not sound like much, but for us its a great milestone, says Lewenhaupt. I think we are where we are because of consistency and grit combined with an offering that people enjoy. We aim to keep doing what we are good at and to slowly develop our brand and our products. There will be more shoe styles for sure and who knows, perhaps we will carefully look at other categories as well.

CQP’s Seasonal Store is located on Ingmar Bergmans Gata 2 in Stockholm.
