Wool with a wow factor

British GQ Style's Fashion Director Elgar Johnson curated his own space at British Fashion Council's new venue DiscoveryLAB during the recent London Fashion Week Men's. The brand opening their catwalk show: Danish Tonsure.

– Our Autumn/Winter 2018 presented at the runway is minimal and clean, with a hint of “darkness”, co-founder Adam El-Zayat says.

Designer Malte Flagstad draws inspiration from 1980’s New York, with the collection focusing on fabrication and textures associated with jersey, wools, and leather.

Supported by The Woolmark Company, it references jersey, however, is made predominantly from Merino wool.

Either highlighted through the construction and composition of the wool fabric to resemble various shades of classic grey melange jersey or by making iconic men’s wardrobe staples such as shirts and t-shirts from knitted Merino wool panels, wool is celebrated.

Tell us more about the fabrics.

– A classic wool motif, such as herringbone, is given the appearance of a melange jersey, in collaboration with Lanificio Subalpino.

An exclusive technical lightweight nylon print was developed with Limonta, which features a classic Prince of Wales check that has been highlighted to become a new check pattern resembling wool, El-Zayat says.

Why is it so important for Tonsure to show in London?

– London Fashion Week is a great platform for emerging designer brands with all international media attending the shows and events. A bonus is that the week is being held very early in the season, which makes your collection come out early in the wholesale season to buyers and press.

The secrets of couture

Stockholm art museum Sven-Harry's opens the winter-spring 2018 season with the exhibition Secrets of Couture, which highlights the mythical haute couture fashion and its role in today's fashion climate, and also looks at the possible future orientation of couture. Showing international fashion designers such as Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen/Givenchy, Balmain, and Louis Vuitton, and Swedish designers such as Pär Engsheden and Bea Szenfeld, the exhibition explores the secrets of the couture world and gives visitors an exciting insight into the processes that usually take place behind closed doors. While it also includes men's dress coats by famous Stockholm tailor A. W. Bauer and show several examples by students at Beckmans College of Design of how male couture could look in the future, you don't want to miss the exhibition's centerpiece: a gown that Sara Danius wore at the Nobel ceremony in 2015, created by Pär Engsheden.

Skincare that only lasts nine months – thankfully

Founders of Danish Nuori have started a skincare business around fresh. While most of their competitor's products are formulated to last at least 30 months, that is 2.5 years or longer (though numerous studies have shown that commonly used active ingredients, such as vitamins A, C and E, are unstable in cosmetic formulations and start losing their beneficial properties in just a few months), Nuori provides their customers with a batch stamp and an expiry date nine months later. Aplace X Atatac

"We want to show a new way to produce and sell fashion." Atatac's co-founder Rickard Lindqvist.

Aiming to rethink the way of design, sell and produce garments, the Swedish-based fashion studio Atatac uses pre-order of all their new products to a cheaper price than when they're released and to avoid stocking and overproduction. The same pre-order procedure goes with the collaboration capsule line launched now for fashion store Aplace, including T-shirts, coats and trousers and available to preview through a 3D hologram in the latter's outlet at Norrlandsgatan in central Stockholm.

A fusion for Swedish fashion

Organizations Swedish Fashion Council and Association of Swedish Fashion Brands joins together in one to collect and strengthen the Swedish fashion industry. They will now work unitedly in matters like export, sustainability, digitalization, innovation and cultural expressions, as well as arranging Fashion Week Stockholm.

– During the last few years, the cooperation between ASFB and SFC have developed and improved, the organization's new CEO, Jennie Rosén, says. To formalize this collaboration is a natural development, that I look forward to lead.
