Adding carbon neutral Alcantara to an icon and simplicity imbued with a sense of beauty in one chair

Plus iconic sneakers from 1900 come to life and the mix of business and pleasure in one watch.

Nitty Gritty x Sebago Docksides Sebago has produced boating- and deck gear and leisure footwear since 1946. This week, Stockholm-based retailer Nitty Gritty introduce a special make up of the classic Docksides silhouette with a new interpretation. They wanted to add some progression by asking themselves: Would it be possible to make a pair of Docksides in an environmentally friendly, non-animal material and still get the same touch and feel?

With Alcantara, a thoroughly innovative Italian made, non-animal material, it became possible. Alcantara is smooth and soft, yet sturdy and durable. It’s carbon neutral and a sustainable alternative to suede.

The exclusive edition Sebago Docksides x Nitty Gritty – Alcantara®️ Portland Shoe will be released in two color options today in store and online. The campaign features music group Teddybears’ singer Patrik Arve.

Simplicity imbued with a sense of beauty The headline describes how Danish designer works when creating a piece of furniture. Stripping the concept down to only what’s necessary, the form emerges from the function in an expression that’s pure and purposeful. That same description is also at the core of the new Post Collection from Manz for Danish Fredericia Furniture, presented at last week’s Milan Design Week. The name is a nod to the former home of the Royal Mail, renovated into the company’s flagship showroom in Copenhagen.

Clean, uncluttered lines are the signature traits of the Post Table and Post Chair, each boasting a solid wood frame that reflects Fredericia’s heritage of wood craftsmanship and appreciation for authentic materials.

The Post Chair is upright and unassuming, with clean, classic lines. The plywood seat and back are light yet sturdy, while the arms offer just enough support with a minimal use of space. Add to that the option of an upholstered seat in leather or fabric, and you have a subtle design that could easily fit into a residential setting, restaurant, café or corporate environment.

– One feels almost compelled to create something new for a company like Fredericia, with such a fine history and tradition for the utmost craftsmanship and quality. With the Post series, I have tried to create a design that is completely quiet but still with character using classic cylindrical legs. A good-sized table and a comfortable chair are the most essential pieces of furniture in your everyday life. Yet they are also the hardest virtues to achieve, as your eyes and your body quickly finds what doesn’t work, says Manz.

Iconic sneakers from 1900 come to life Tretorn is one of the world’s oldest sneaker manufacturers, with a heritage going back to May 1 in 1900. This spring they start a journey to bring back premium archive sneakers with an eco profile in their Eco Essential Initiative, a platform for sustainable innovation.

SS19 launch is focusing on bringing back locally sourced natural rubber as the main compound for outsoles, recycled rubber to create the in-sock, and Eco Tannery Tan-Tec for eco suede and eco leather: all traceable to farm, cow or sheep, made with reduced water use and strict regulations on colourings.

The key styles include Racket 1961, a premium suede update on a 60’s tennis icon with a unique three-layer vulcanized sole technique for long lasting durability and comfort. And Nylite 1967, the world’s first luxury tennis sneaker, creating a whole new category of sneakers: white tennis sneakers as lifestyle accessory. Worn by Bjorn Borg in US Open and Wimbledon and highlighted in New York Preppy Handbook as a must have in 1980.

For the next season, FW19, Tretorn plan to bridge their heritage sneakers with the water proof eco fabric from the Eco Essentials outerwear.

Caliroots x TRIWA Sneaker and streetwear retailer Caliroots has always been inspired by the Californian lifestyle. In a new collab with Stockholm-based watch brand TRIWA, they combine business and pleasure in one limited-edition watch. It has ”LA” written on the dial together with the recently introduced ”Caliroots palm”, which is also printed at one side of the band, made of recycled plastic, whereas ”business” and ”pleasure” is on the other side. Launching this Saturday.
