Acclaimed design duo presents additional special accessories for Vitra at Maison & Objet

During this year’s design fair in Pairs, the Swiss company extends their growing portfolio of design objects, accessories and textiles. The collection includes patterns and objects made by legends like Jean Prouvé, Alexander Girard and George Nelson. But also leading contemporary designers such as Raw-Edges — and Swedish Front.

Words: Johan Magnusson

Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren is the design duo behind Front. For Vitra Accessories Collection, they present Resting Animals. It’s the result of Front’s research project, focusing on the close connection between humans and figurative objects. The design duo asked randomly selected people to identify the most emotionally enriching and meaningful objects in their lives. The majority of answers turned out to be animal figures that were perceived to have personalities, specific attributes or a shared history. Previous works by Front have been devoted to the systematic observation of how various animals sleep or hibernate.

Posed in a peaceful slumber, the Resting Animals radiate an aura of tranquility. The largest is a knit covered bear that can be used as a stool. The smaller designs — a cat and two birds in different sizes — are decorative ceramic objects. From now on, the animals are available in additional colours and the Resting Cat is joined by a little sister.
