A Scandinavian take on an American icon

Interview Johan Magnusson

Alpha Industries’ military jackets gets a rubberized touch in a new capsule line.

Founded by Alexander Stutterheim as a hobby project in 2010, rainwear brand Stutterheim is now a global player, with more than 1 000 retailers, including Barney’s New York, Dover Street Market, Isetan, and Le Bon Marché. Aside from their own collection of well crafted rain protective outerwear, they’ve launched special projects with Henrik Vibskov, Garance Doré, Volvo, Marni, and Jay-Z. Their latest collaboration partner on a capsule collection: iconic Alpha Industries.

What’s the background to this drop?

– The Alpha Industries project started with an introduction through our partner in the U.S., Stutterheim marketing director Johan Loman says. From our point of view it’s amazing and very inspiring how a brand, such as Alpha, can do one thing, keep at it for so long and stay relevant. Secondly they always use their signature styles for collaborations with little or no change – other than the material – and that offered an interesting challenge as well.

The collection includes three styles – the MA-1 Bomber, the M-65 Fishtail Parka and the N-3B Weather Parka – in a rubberized cotton fabric.

What are you up to next at Stutterheim?

– Early October we will launch Stutterheim Clinic. In November we will restock our collaboration with Henrik Vibskov online and with retailers, and in December our second capsule collection for Marni hits the stores as part of their SS18 collection. And we start the new year with our own shoe line… no sleep!

Stutterheim x Alpha Industries is available in the Stutterheim concept stores in Stockholm and New York, online at or, and from November at key retailers in Europe and U.S.
