In many ways, it could be argued that Rolf Ekroth’s latest collection is quite a gamble. The 38-year-old Swedish-Finnish designer started his career as a poker player and it wasn’t until a friend asked him if he really shouldn’t be working in fashion that he attended Helsinki’s Aalto University.
Since then he’s worked on many creative collaborations and was most recently tapped to revive Finnish sportswear brand Ternit. Which he agreed to on the condition that his namesake line was backed by them. As a result, he simultaneously presented two collections during last seasons Pitti Uomo.
The result is best described as the lovechild of Wu-Tang Clan, a sailor, and legendary Japanese anime Neon Genesis. But more than anything the collection is a retrospect of his teenage years. A millennial MTV-dream where Hally Hansen coats shamelessly could be matched with bright orange military garments.Rolf Ekroth
