”We took inspiration from what you call ’rude boy’ jewellery”
On Thursday, February 21, Maria Black and Han Kjøbenhavn release an exclusive unisex collaboration. The limited-edition collection Concrete Heroes consists of The Blood Moon & Brick Ring, The Marina Chain and The Blood Moon Sunglasses in 14 karats solid gold with precious stones. It emerged from Maria Black and Han Kjøbenhavn’s Creative Director Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen’s similar upbringing in the western suburbs of Hvidovre and Brøndby in Copenhagen. Within this concrete world, under-the-counter gold is accessible after one’s deepest desire which the collab seeks to re-create.
The jewellery pieces are a tribute to the street environment. It will be sold at the price of what the raw material gold, precious stones and craftsmanship cost, meaning customers will only pay for the gold that you hold in your hands. The prices in gold vary from day to day depending on the market. As an example, if the daily gold price rises with 2% the product price will increase by 2% and equally if the daily gold price falls the product price will decrease. The collaboration follows the gold market prices just as if it was sold ”under the counter” so purchasing jewellery from this collaboration is like investing in a piece of gold at the perfect time.
– The collaboration emerged from HAN’s CONCRETE collection and Maria Black’s HEROES collection. We took inspiration from what you call ”rude boy” jewellery. Jannik doesn’t do anything half-hearted so we chose to create some lavish jewellery. Jannik had a collection that was a tribute to the style and the environment that he grew up in. This collaboration was a perfect fit with the aim to shake the Danish jewellery expression a little, says Maria Black.

The most peaceful collaboration of all times
One of the clear highlights when we visited Pitti Uomo and Copenhagen Fashion Week last month was Swedish Tretorn and Finnish Makia’s FW19 collab collection Peace Islands.
The idea emerged when the brands met at Pitti Uomo and found the many synergies that existed between the brands and the Åland region, an archipelago located in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland. It’s a demilitarized and autonomous place belonging to Finland but Swedish-speaking, has a long maritime history and is today a meeting place for sailing enthusiasts with an eco-mindset.
The collection includes rainwear, boots, knitted sweaters, and accessories. It’s created around the theme of peaceful marine life and the timeless sailing culture. Inspired by Tretorn’s classic sailing products with boots and jackets launched in the ’60s, together with Makia’s stylish and timeless products that make it perfect for a sea-time life.
– We wanted to focus this cooperation on comradery, solidarity, and respect towards nature. For this, we got inspired by Tretorn’s Wings collection and the rural seafaring island archipelago of Åland that lies in the Baltic Sea between our neighboring countries, says Totti Nyberg, CCO Makia.
In addition to peace, the Peace Islands collection also focuses on sustainability. The Baltic Sea is exposed to major pollution and in extremely bad condition. In the struggle to improve the state, Tretorn and Makia donate part of the sale to the John Nurminen Foundation, who works for a clean Baltic Sea. The raincoats in the collection are also made in recycled polyester as part of Tretorns Eco Essentials initiative.
– With the Tretorn X Makia collab, we aim to engage the modern consumer by delivering high-quality and responsibly produced products that fuse environmental consciousness with the adventuresome spirit of outdoor enthusiasts, but also made for urban use, says Fredrik Ekström, Creative Director Tretorn.
The Peace Islands collection will be in store this August.
Reality of Love
Valentine’s has passed, but love is obviously a constant inspiration. Even so in the Swedish fashion brand Svea’s coming campaign.
– All love is good love, which is something we’ve always believed in. That is also why we always add a love message in our pieces, says John-John Wallmansson, Head of Fashion.
The love for someone you love is celebrated in eight different ways in the Reality of Love campaign. It includes influencers Amelia Widell (with her daughter Luca), Hanna MW (with her brother Joakim), Rami Hanna, and Nadia Kandil as well as John-John together with his mother, Svea’s CEO and Founder Kiki Wallmansson.
