Handcraft, quality, and comfort are all keywords for Hästens, who remains a family-owned company with the fifth generation running the company today. With a rich history and background as saddle makers, all beds are crafted by hand in Köping, Sweden using natural material like cotton, wool, horse tail hair flax, and pine. And it’s now a global business as Hästens has grown to 40 countries all around the world.
Ilse Crawford is the founder of Studioilse and together with her London-based team, she creates environments where humans feel comfortable; public spaces that make people feel at home and homes that are habitable and make sense for the people who live in them.
— I am a designer, academic and creative director with a simple mission to put human needs and desires at the centre of all that I do, she says.
You know launch the Being collection for Hästens. Tell us about the collab.
— The collection is designed to complement Hästens’ luxury handcrafted mattresses and to support and enhance our experience of being in bed. The star of the collection is a headboard upholstered in natural hemp fabric. With its tactile feel and gentle slope, it provides a comfortable sitting experience for lazy mornings in bed. Joining the headboard is a hemp bedskirt with kick pleat corners and piped seams. With its natural yet clean aesthetic, it is the ideal partner to Hästens’ handmade beds.
Only weeks ago, Hästens presented their Iris collection by couture designer Lars Nilsson.
How come that you’ve launched two big collaborations in just a short while?
— We have been aiming for more design collaborations but wanted the perfect fits, and why wait? says Global PR Manager Sanja Tegeltjia, continuing, Lars and Ilse’s designs are very different from each other and we want to be able to offer something for all kind of customers.
What’s so special about Being collection?
— The collaboration is very special for Hästens since we are working with new materials and with such a talented designer like Ilse and her fantastic team. We are very excited to launch this collection since it is a beautiful compliment to our classic design the blue check.
What else is coming for you?
— We have even more exciting design collaborations coming up later this year, very different from these. So, stay tuned for more news, says Tegeltjia.
